Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011)

from here

This isn't a jumpy-scary horror movie, it's dark and creepy. Through flashbacks, you get to see what life was like for a young girl who used to belong to a cult. This is the creepy part; its being realistic and believable makes it more frightening and disgusting. Having escaped, Martha has to face all the fear caused by what she and the other members of the cult did. This is the sad part.

I haven't watched many movies/TV series this summer, which is strange. My attention span is getting shorter and I have no tolerance for dull films. This was a very interesting one, albeit depressing. And who knew that the Olsen twins had such a talented sister (Elizabeth Olsen)?

Thanks to Emma and my sister for recommending it.

  2. Ooh I'm glad you watched it, I read up loads of stuff about it afterwards and you know the weird ending...???...well it was supposed to convey that she will never escape from them!! SPOOKY! I love Elizabeth Olsen and can't wait to see her in other stuff.

    1. It was really spooky and the story reminded me a bit of the Manson family, especially when they broke into that man's house at night. I didn't read many reviews afterwards, but the look of fear in her eyes in the final scene was pretty revealing. Olsen was very good and for some weird reason I really liked her voice.

  9. Hi Evi (my favourite name)!!
I was going to call my daughter that name
but it did not go well with our surname :(
so called her Ashleigh (pronounced Ashley) instead

That movie sounds just like something I would enjoy
I will look out for it.

Thanks for letting me know about it

Happy week to you my friend.

    1. What a coincidence!
Well, Evi is short for Paraskevi. Paraskevi means Friday and sexta-feira is Friday in Portuguese.
I've loved the word sexta-feira ever since I took some Portuguese classes 6 years ago!
Have a nice week Fiona and say "hi" to your daughter from me! (does she blog?)
