  6. Annapolis sounds Greek, and although I freely admit that my knowledge of US geography is woeful, I've never heard of it, despite it being a state capital (hangs head in shame). The houses are beautiful.

    1. Annapolis sounds Greek indeed, but the town itself looks very Irish (reminded me -again- of Malahide for some reason) and there are quite a few Irish pubs. I thought maybe there were a lot of immigrants from Ireland there in the past?... I didn't look it up.

I love the houses! When I was a teenager, I used to watch Dawson's Creek (no eyebrow raising, please...thank you) and this place was as if I had stepped into the set. (the actual series was however filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina-according to google-)

  8. Beautiful photos Evi. I have been browsing your photos of Greece today.

We have agreed to go on holiday with friends, and whereas my wife and I suggested the glorious Santorini, they have settled on Crete.

We have never been there but, disconcertingly, every time I'm asked if I'm going away this year, by barbers, people at work, pleasant muggers etc, and I reply, 'Crete probably', I am met with this face. You can't see my impression of the face, but imagine, on opening night, having your back to the stage and looking directly at the naive old lady who queued for front-row seats to 'Colonic Irrigation - The musical.' That's roughly the face.

Are they all snobs, or have they just been to the wrong end of Crete?

    1. ha ha ha ha ha!

First of all, thanks for stopping by and commenting! Your comments over at Ed's always crack me up.

Second of all, Crete vs Santorini... Let's see.

      1. I've never been to Crete but everyone tells me it's an amazing island. I'm sure you'll have a great time. It's huge and there are so many things to see and do. And the food is delicious!

      2. Santorini: the only good time to be there is in May, early June, late August and September. It gets overcrowded during the summer and you can't really enjoy the beauty of the island. Yes, it's like a postcard: windmills, magnificent sunsets, breathtaking view of the volcano etc. But, it's a very touristy place and this means that everything is overpriced (I remember paying 6,50 euros (when it's normally 3-3,50) for an iced cappucino because the coffee place had a view of the volcano, and also 80 euros for two risottos and two aperitifs-that were forced upon us, making us think they were complimentary). Also, too many tourists usually means too much traffic and a sense of filth, especially in the capital. From what I read recently they had a huge problem with electricity this summer. There were black-outs all the time. Also, you know how everyone praises Greek beaches for the color of the water? Santorini is the one place where the beaches are not that great. In other words, it is worth visiting but not during the summer, if you don't want to be disappointed. And you should take extra care choosing your hotel. Not every room has a view (as the photos online may make you think).

There are beautiful islands in the Aegean (look up the Cyclades and the Sporades).

      Was that helpful??

  9. I second Ed's comment - the houses are beautiful! They are so very different than the style here.

    1. Really? The colors of the houses near the water (red, blue, green) reminded me of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia (which I've only seen on TV).

Have a nice month Kara! :)

    2. That is likely very true. I haven't had the chance to visit Nova Scotia sadly, and I love a few thousand miles away I would guess.

      Thanks, Evi. You too!
